MacDerma™ CSA can be obtained by the bark of willow trees. MacDerma™ CSA, or 2-hydroxyl-5-octanoyl benzoic acid is a lipophilized derivative of salicylic acid. The compound has corneolytic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anticomedonic activities.
